New Knife - Camillus HT-7

Then it was time for the second fixed blade from Camillus. Not in their model program then but in my collection. They say that first impressions are important and that it takes a certain amount of time to shake off or at least nuance them. It is also true in this case. The first impression was not good at all.

Firstly, the packaging is terrible. It's obviously made for any American discount chain like Walmart or similar. It means a "blister pack". Not only does it look cheap, but it's also nearly impossible to break into as well. There you get great use out of your previous collection items. A sharp dagger is recommended. On the way, it is discovered that they also equipped the package with pre-installed alarms! Something I have never experienced before. Well, new experiences are fun.

Not as fun is the sheath, which also contributes to the cheap impression as it is made of nylon. Actually reasonably well-fitting nylon but still.

This knife from Camillus called HT-7 struggled uphill from the first moment in the Wikström home I can report.

Camillus HT-7

Unfortunately, the knife comes prepackaged for Walmart including a store alarm, barcode, and burglar-proof plastic

Nor was the second impression entirely brilliant, as the knife, after a quick inspection, turned out to have a horribly executed edge. It is uneven in height, which almost makes the belly look like it has an edge in the middle instead of forming a harmonious curve. In addition, it is uneven laterally and capsizes in all possible directions. This knife has not one edge but several. The apex is actually relatively sharp. But considering how the rest looks, it won't stay that way without re-sharpening. But considering the material, it will go quickly.

The sheath is simple, but the HT-7 knife itself gives a better impression

The third impression, if there is one, was more solid. Aside from the edge, the blade is nicely shaped and the handle is really comfortable to hold. I can't say anything about how it is to work with yet. But the feeling in the hand and the balance bode well if I just resharpen the knife.

In other words, it remains to be seen if Camillus HT-7 and I can become friends after all. The materials speak against it. The steel is some 420 variant and the handle material is a mixture of rubber and ABS plastic according to the website. The proof is in the pudding as they say. I'll give it a chance.
